ince going vegan about 5 months ago now, Omid and I have discovered a whole new world of delicious recipes and food options. I had no idea just how many vegan restaurants we had here in Orange County until Amber Johnson from Facial Lounge gave me a list of at least 10 places I needed to try ASAP.
At the top of her list was Café Gratitude (note: on Google Maps it is listed at “Gratitude Newport Beach”). Just up the street and walking distance from my favorite coffee shop Keán Coffee, Café Gratitude is an organic, 100% vegan, plant-based restaurant serving up the most delicious vegan dishes I have yet to try (no joke their nachos with mushroom carnitas are better than any non-vegan nachos I have ever had).
I rarely have trouble choosing what to eat at a restaurant as there are usually very few items that actually interest me. Browsing the menu at Café Gratitude, however, I found myself wishing I was one of those professional food eaters who could consume twice my weight in food without vomiting it all up later. Seriously, everything on their menu looks so tempting. And to date, each dish I have tried has far exceeded my expectations.
Their plant-based recipes lead to tantalizing dishes that taste even better than their animal-fill counterparts AND leave your tummy feeling satisfied and clean. I could eat the most delicious burger in the world, but no matter how good it tastes I know I’m going to feel like I have a rock in my stomach for the next 3 days and my digestion will slow down to about the speed of a sloth crossing the street. Café Gratitude gives you all the taste without the regret and indigestion that follows most non-vegan meals.
Apparently they have a collection of plant-based restaurants scattered over Southern California, which I am dying to try. On their webpage you can read about their commitment to “Sacred Commerce” which in their words is “where we provide inspired service, honest and transparent communication, and express gratitude for the richness of our lives.” And I can honestly say this is reflected in your experience from the quality of the food, to the care of the staff to the perfectly planned decorations.
My Favorites at Café Gratitude:
- Nachos (with mushroom carnitas added)
- Buffalo cauliflower
- House-made Ginger Ale
- Key Lime Pie (oh lord, it’s so good)
What I’m Dying to Try at Café Gratitude:
- Spicy Broccolini
- Breakfast Taco Plate
- Chickpea Quiche
- Cinnamon Roll ?
- Kale Ceasar Salad
- Mission Burrito
- Raw Pad Thai Kelp Noodles
- Pretty much all of there alcoholic beverages because they all are so unique!
I know what you’re thinking….that’s basically the whole menu right there….Why yes, yes it is…. 😉
Café Gratitude is without a doubt one of my new favorite vegan restaurants in Orange County and if you’re a friend of mine, you can bet that I will be forcing you to eat with me there at least once. But once is all it takes cause I know you’ll be begging to go back whether you’re vegan or not 😉 I’m on a mission to try all of their dishes so I can’t wait to be back soon! Have you been to Café Gratitude? Any other recommendations for vegan restaurants in OC??
