here really is no better feeling than when you accidentally stumble across an adorable little boutique or café while exploring a new city. It’s almost like a surprise present you had no idea was coming and without hesitation you rush inside to discover what new gem you just happened to walk past. Chök Chocolate Kitchen in Barcelona was one of these irresistible sidewalk discoveries.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against researching some fun places you definitely want to check out, hey, that’s what this blog post is supposed to be isn’t it? And as much as I love researching some cute places and then going to them in person, it’s the stores and cafes I had no idea existed before I randomly walked past that are the most exciting to uncover.

As we were riding our freshly rented, about-to-break-down bikes we whizzed right past this tiny little shop with brightly colored donuts hanging on little pegs all over the wall. Honestly, we probably almost caused an accident we stopped so fast in front of that Chök  window. Like wide-eyed children in front of a colorful candy shop we couldn’t peel ourselves away.

But we did have a schedule we needed to stick to so we marked the location on our calendars. I pretty much had that place in the back of my head for the next 2 hours until our bike rentals were done and without hesitation we practically went sprinting down the streets to find Chök.

Chök’s signature is what they call a Kronut – a donut made out of a croissant. And ohhhh my do they look absolutely delicious. Expertly decorated, their Kronuts are as beautifully decorated as they are delicious I’m sure. I’m kicking myself for not getting one, but I knew I could only handle about two bites before the sugar overload hit me.

While the Chök kronut is pretty much the star of the show, they have a long glass case filled with plenty of other delicious and adorable little treats. Cakes, cookies dipped in chocolate, nut clusters, brownies, fudge……

After drooling over all their colorful desserts we decided to go with a few of their truffles. I always have to get a raspberry truffle if there is one, just to compare, and I honestly think Chök’s raspberry truffle was the best I have ever had. Chök provides plenty of opportunity for seduction with their many other truffle flavors like tiramisu, coffee, oreo, etc.

What I really loved is that they have a seating area, albeit a small one, where you can sit and enjoy a coffee with your dessert and even watch as they make some of the desserts right through the window.

I’m still dreaming about their raspberry truffle and without a doubt they have made it onto my list of must-go places for the next time I return to Barcelona ?
